About Dodie
Dodie Huber
Stories have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I grew up in a home filled with books. Both of my parents loved to read, so fantasy novels, science fiction, and comic books were always within reach. Those stories fueled my imagination, and by the fifth grade, I had started writing stories of my own.
Years ago, some friends convinced me to join an online role-playing game. Playing my character quickly became one of my favorite parts of the experience. Lorelei began as a winged woman with no memory of her past and a mysterious illness we simply called the fever.
As her memories returned, so did something darker. She struggled to hold on to who she was while fighting a disease that threatened to change her into someone capable of terrible things. The more I played her, the more real she became to me.
Eventually, one question wouldn't leave me alone:
How did Lorelei become this woman?
Answering that question meant imagining her before the darkness, when she was still a young woman discovering who she wanted to become. But Lorelei needed somewhere to live. She needed a family, a history, a culture, enemies, friendships and secrets.
Before I knew it, I wasn't just writing Lorelei's story. I was building an entire world around her.
That world became Duari nestled within the Soaring Realms Universe.
Today, I still approach characters much the way I did during those early role-playing days: I put them into difficult situations and see what they do. I especially love characters who aren't entirely good or evil, people faced with choices that challenge who they believe themselves to be.
When I'm not writing or exploring the Soaring Realms, I work in technology and enjoy gaming, gardening, the great outdoors, and spending time with my family and rescue dogs in Texas.
Lorelei started all of this, and her story is far from finished.
Welcome to the Soaring Realms.
